Soon, Gary Cantor Will Be a Durham Doctor

February 27, 2017

For Gary Cantor, Durham is a great place to study and conduct research for his Ph.D. He loves to focus his medical research on those projects that could help humans live a much longer and healthier life. He began his education in Gainesville, at the University of Florida, where worked in his first lab while he was still a teenager. One summer, Gary worked as an intern in the Translational Oncology department at Genentech in San Francisco, where he was part of a team researching a very important treatment for breast cancer.

After getting his Biology Degree from Florida, Cantor was accepted into the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program (BBSP) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he also joined UNC’s Genetics and Molecular Biology Department. That was when, for Gary Cantor, Durham, North Carolina, which is right down the road, became home. Now, Gary is a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate who tries to take a different approach to human anatomy than most. Still only in his 20s, Gary Cantor is just starting to move medical science forward.
